Antiviral Oral-nasal spray Virudol®
The Problem:
During the coronavirus crisis, people wore face masks everywhere in public to protect themselves from the viral load. This fact gave rise to the idea of developing a new type of virus protection, the antiviral system Virudol®. It consists of the mouth and nose spray Virudol®, whereby this medical product can be administered individually. In addition, it can be combined with an air system called Virudol® Air.
The product
Virudol® is an antiviral Nasal and Mouth Spray, that contains only natural substances which fight off infection and transmission of viruses. Primarily, Virudol® was developed against coronaviruses. It became clear that the mechanism of action, in particular of the oral-nasal spray Virudol®, can also be used to protect against other airborne viruses that spread through droplet infections, such as flu viruses, and possibly also against RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), which often causes respiratory diseases in small children.
Virudol® has a composition of natural substances that bind tightly to virus particles, furthermore, they attach to the spike proteins. The additional components mask the virus and inhibit the binding of the viral particles to the cell receptor. Subsequently, the infection of human cells is blocked, and the replication and proliferation of infectious particles are restrained.
The oral-nasal spray Virudol® contains two antiviral mechanisms, a specific and an unspecific one. It forms a very thin film layer on the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose, which is structured like a mesh. Viruses cannot penetrate this, and get stuck. This is an unspecific mechanism. Additionally, there are specific blocking substances in its composition. These bind tightly to virus particles, in detail, they attach to the spike proteins and inhibit the binding of the viral particles to the cell receptor. Subsequently, the infection of human cells is blocked, and the replication and proliferation of infectious particles are restrained.
All ingredients in the composition of the oral-nasal spray Virudol® are of natural origin. The mesh-forming substance is from algae and the inhibitors are obtained from the peel of citrus fruits. These active ingredients are also used as natural ingredients in food, cosmetics, and beverages. They have been known for a very long time and whose tolerability in the concentrations used has been shown several times. They have long been known to have antiviral activities. Molecular studies and chemical docking experiments have now demonstrated the mechanism of action. Due to high binding affinities, low concentrations of the inhibitory substances are effective. For the formation of the mesh-like network, quality controls ensure functionality.
Why now?

As this is an enormous market we are sure that the prevention of disease by the preventive antiviral system Virudol® has also huge demand in many parts of the world.

Why are we investing?
The decision to invest in the development of this product was an idea of MVS Pharma’s owner – Mr. Rainer Proksch. Because of his passion for helping people stay healthy and protect themselves against viruses, he decided to do something no one has done until now. Since the emergence of the Covid-19 virus, back in 2019, millions of people got infected with the until then unknown new disease. People were forced to protect themselves by wearing facial masks. Pharmaceutical companies worldwide were focused on the production of vaccines. The founder of MVS Pharma, Mr. Proksch wondered if there isn’t another way to reduce the viral load and therefore a mask will be only optional to wear.
Competition
The oral-nasal spray Virudol® is for full protection of the respiratory system. Other sprays are generally either mouth or nose sprays and are mainly used therapeutically. We want to make sure that our customers understand that our focus is to create an innovative product, providing high-quality natural ingredients, processing, manufacturing, storage, and quality control. Virudol® will be a novel product for protection against viruses that can be used separately and in addition to other protection methods like vaccination. We will give the people a product with high efficacy and proven bioavailability.
During our team’s extensive research of the market, we found out that hesperidin is currently being sold in the form of food supplements, however, the products that are currently on the market contain raw materials with questionable purity and also bioavailability.
What is the status of the research?

The inhibitory substances stay and can move in the thin mesh on the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose. In this way, the active ingredients remain present for a certain time and the attachment of SARS-CoV-2 to the ACE2 receptor is prevented for this period.
The protection works for two cases:
- For infected people who can breathe out the virus, this is inhibited.
- For people who can breathe in the viral particles, these are blocked, and infection is hindered.
A further important part of the oral-nasal spray Virudol® is the spray bottle. The formation of the mesh-like thin film layer is only achieved if calcium ions are present and if the composition is applied using a fine nebulization system. It must be applied to the nose and the mouth for protection of the complete breathing system. Durability and protection against the heat of the spray bottle will be guaranteed. This was solved by an additional inner bag in the bottle, which contains the actual substance. To achieve all these points an innovative spray bottle is in development. The use will be very comfortable.
In addition, the development of samples of the oral-nasal spray Virudol® with different aromas is planned so that each individual can choose a favorite flavor. In this way, a preventive spray is formulated that aims at protecting against the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and other airborne viruses.
