Covid-19 and how would our near future look like is something that many people think about. Due to the coronavirus, the world hasn’t been functioning normally for two years now. Everyone’s life has been affected in one way or another. Of course, we do now have vaccines, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get sick from the disease. So what can we expect in our near future with the covid-19? We will try to paint that picture for you in this article.
It is true that in most countries that took measures on time, we can see the numbers of infected people going down. With the help of the vaccine that number goes even lower, thankfully. However is this light in the tunnel true, or could it be just a mirage?
There was an interview with three health experts, done by Thedenverchannel.com (an online and TV media), posted on 24.06.2021.
In it, the health experts say that is likely that the vaccinated will be primarily protected against the virus. As for the areas with higher numbers of unvaccinated people, it is expected that to cause strains on hospitals.
“So, if we look what’s happening even right now–so in the state of Colorado, where we have low vaccination rates in specific counties, we’re already seeing increased cases, increased hospitalizations. And I predict we’re going to see increased deaths in these counties. We’re going to see a surge of the need of our ICU beds,” Dr. Rebecca Weintraub, a professor at Harvard Medical School.
The main question right now is – What can we expect to happen in the fall and winter this year? “We usually also see other respiratory viruses circulating, particularly influenza, flu,” said Dr. Amanda Castel, a professor of epidemiology at George Washington University.
“And so, it’ll be important for us to encourage people to get vaccinated for flu also if they haven’t already because that will help us kind of tease out COVID versus flu. Otherwise, we’re going to see people starting to move indoors a little bit more, and depending on where you are and vaccination coverage, that may be a time when we must revisit masking, which obviously those restrictions have been lifted currently.”
The experts also aren’t sure that it will be politically correct to have another shut down in the USA or worldwide.
This is of course a question that everyone asks and thinks about. However, nobody can answer it for sure. We can only make forecasts with unclear facts and possibilities.
“So, I think the virus is going to end up being what we call an endemic. So, endemic means that it’s kind of establish a baseline in the communities, not outbreaks may occur here and there, but generally, it’s just kind of circulating in the background,” Dr. Castel said.
