Many scientists are trying to figure out whether or not vitamin C can be effective against covid. During these times of constant trials, many doctors struggle to cure or help ease the symptoms of coronavirus. If you have a strong immune system and get infected, there is a high chance that you won’t experience severe symptoms. This means that you have to be in good health. You can achieve it by giving your body all the nutrients it needs to keep up strong immunity. Today we are going to take a look at the role of vitamin C in the treatment and prevention of covid.

Can Vitamin C be effective against COVID-19?

According to some research, intravenous (IV) vitamin C could potentially help treat or prevent coronavirus. Furthermore, clinical trials of IV vitamin C began recently in China and Italy. Scientists are just beginning to research the effects of this nutrient in treating covid or preventing it.

A study from 2018 compared two groups of people with severe symptoms. The first group received vitamin C, thiamine, and hydrocortisone infusion, and the second didn’t. The authors of this study found that the group which took vitamin C had better outcomes in the recovery phase. Specifically, they had improvements in their lung scans and the mortality rate was lower. As a result, the researchers concluded that a combined vitamin C, hydrocortisone, and thiamine therapy could potentially benefit patients with severe pneumonia.

Doctors use high-dose IV vitamin C to test if it can improve lung function in people with COVID-19. However, there is still no evidence that high doses of oral vitamin C supplements can help with the disease. In fact, overdosing on this vitamin can cause bad side effects like diarrhea.

Combination of Vitamin C and Zinc against covid. Is it helpful?

Vitamin C and zinc combined can help improve the symptoms and shorten the duration of the common cold. Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) has pleiotropic physiological activity. In other words, supplementing with high doses of Vitamin C under the doctor’s supervision has shown to be effective against common flu; rhinovirus; avian virus; Zika; ARDS; and influenza. Furthermore, there is a study that supports the protective effect of high dose IV vitamin C (intravenous) during sepsis-induced ARDS due to COVID-19.

How could IV vitamin C work in people with COVID-19?

As we mentioned before, researchers are now trying to figure out if vitamin c is effective against COVID-19. Here are some theories which are suggesting how Intravenous Ascorbic Acid may affect COVID-19: Very high vitamin C levels could create free radicals that destroy viruses and bacteria. Furthermore, our body’s cells have natural defenses against these free radicals, but viruses do not.

The other way can be that IV vitamin C renews the body’s antioxidant protection. Serious infections deplete our body’s vitamin C and other antioxidants very quickly. Although doctors are using IV vitamin C as Intravenous Ascorbic Acid, there is no yet published scientific evidence about treating Covid-19 with IV vitamin C.
